Superintendent

October 4, 2023

Dear GUSD Students, Staff, and Community,

I just wanted to take a minute to let you know of an important decision I have made.  On Wednesday, September 13th, 2023 the Globe Unified School District Governing Board approved my notice of retirement.  I will be retiring from my position as GUSD Superintendent effective June 30, 2024.  I began my tenure as superintendent on July 1, 2012.  I will have served as superintendent for 12 years when I retire from this position.

I especially want to thank each of you for your commitment and dedication to our district.  I would not have been able to serve in this position without all of you.  The work you do every day has made a big difference in the lives of our students, our district staff members, and the Globe community at large.  I realize that the positive movement we have made, and will continue to make at GUSD, is the result of the combined efforts of everyone (students, staff, board and community).

I have communicated my intention to leave my role as GUSD Superintendent at this time so the board can make plans to fill the superintendent position as early as possible.  The board will be considering its options for seeking a new superintendent.  This Monday, October 2nd, 2023 the board heard a presentation from the Arizona School Administrators about their superintendent search services.  The board will vote tonight about engaging ASA to conduct the superintendent search.

It has been my privilege to serve as superintendent here at GUSD for these past 11+ years.  We have seen growth in many areas and have experienced struggles together in other areas.  I will continue to do my best to meet your needs and the needs of our students as I fulfill my duties through the end of June.  I trust we can work together in our goal to live up to our vision statement “Capturing Hearts, Empowering Minds” for the next several months.

Best wishes to all,

Jerry Jennex, Superintendent
