Dear Globe Families/community,

It is great to be a Globe Tiger!  I am not just saying that, I mean it.  Our 3 schools, 200 staff and 1,700 students are doing big things.  The list below is only a highlight reel of some of the great things that have happened in our district in the last two weeks.

  • Copper Rim students reported significant gains in reading achievement making progress towards lessening learning loss seen as a result of COVID.

  • HDMS Gardening class was awarded a $5,000 grant from Kroger and began selling plants that were grown in their class and greenhouse at the local farmers market.

  • GHS celebrated the top 10 senior scholars with the Top 10 Breakfast.  Seniors invited their most influential educator and honored them at the event.  It was meaningful and is a positive way to kick off the Class of 2024 senior activities.

  • CR Kindergarten classes enjoyed spring fling at Harbison field with their families and a huge bubble experience.  Students could be seen covered in bubbles, flying kites and smiling ear to ear.

  • HMDS student, Stella Graham, was one of the winners of the Az529 art contest and met AZ State Treasurer, Kimberly Yee.

  • CR 1st grade students went on their fieldtrip to local government and businesses in the downtown area.  Huge thank you to Globe Police Department, Globe Fire Department, La Casita, and the Gila County Historical Jail for providing students with a fun opportunity.

  • HDMS sports teams were incredibly successful as spring sports came to an end.  HDMS baseball went 19-0 and were conference champions and softball placed 2nd in the CJHL Conference.  HDMS girls track were also conference champions and boys track were runner-ups.

  • FFA students went to the District LDE competition.  Jacob Martin placed first in Novice Extemporaneous Speaking and will be representing Globe and competing at the state level.  FFA also gained approval to travel to Oklahoma to compete in the National Range competition as the current AZ state champions.

  • The GHS tennis team completed its very first season!  Student-athletes learned a lot and competed well.  Special thanks to coaches Emmitt McBride and Leslie Parker and to Miami for allowing our teams to utilize their courts.

  • GHS student Layla Mitchell placed 3rd at EAC Skills day in TIG welding with her CVIT program.

  • We hired a new high school principal, Jeremiah Johnson.  He will replace Mr. Mrozinski when he retires.  Mr. Johnson is from the Globe-Miami community (more information will be sent out to GHS students/families) and will be a positive addition to our GUSD team.

  • All students completed state required standardized testing.  We are confident that students performed to the best of their abilities but we know that our students and our district are so much more than what can be measured on a standardized test.

Wow!  It is great to be a Globe Tiger! I am continually impressed by our students and by our dedicated staff that works so hard to provide students the opportunity to learn, have fun, compete and succeed.  Many of the incredible accomplishments and activities listed above would not be possible without the help and support of our families and community members.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  Thank you for being our partners in education.   We will continue to do the hard work to increase student achievement, put students first in our decision-making and provide our students and community with the best education.

We are also always open to more support, opportunities and partnerships so please reach out to us if you feel so inclined.

We are happy to have you as part of our Globe Tiger community.  Go Tigers!
